SZEGED, THE CITY OF SUNSHINE
Just a few minutes away from the tram stop, the city center can be reached within 5-10 minutes by tram, offering numerous attractions such as the Cathedral Square, the famous musical fountain on Dugonics Square, and one of Hungary’s Art Nouveau masterpieces, the Reök Palace. It’s a great idea to take a stroll along Kárász Street all the way to Széchenyi Square, continuing on to enjoy the ’Belvárosi’ Cinema, the ‘Stefánia’, in the elegant ‘Hungi Vigadó’ building, and the square in front of the Móra Ferenc Museum. Along the promenade running alongside the Tisza River, visitors are greeted with breathtaking views. The Turkish bath ’Anna-fürdő’ is suitable for relaxation.
The Botanical Garden invites with its eye-catching parks and plants. During a walk in the lower town, tourists may come across the curious sunlit houses.
Szeged is also easily explorable by bike: near the Safari Hotel, electric scooters and bicycles are available for rent.
Zoo
The Szeged ZOO is one of Hungary’s youngest but largest zoos. It opened its doors to visitors in 1989 and has since been a popular leisure destination.
The park covers an area of 45 hectares and showcases over 1,000 animals representing more than 200 species. The animals are grouped by continents, allowing visitors to get acquainted with the wildlife of various regions of the world.
The ZOO is open year-round and offers various programs for visitors, including feeding demonstrations, zoo educational activities, and night tours. The Szeged Zoo provides an excellent opportunity for nature-based recreation and getting to know the animals.
GASTRONOMY
Szeged cuisine is one of the most delicious and diverse corners of Hungarian gastronomy. The city boasts many excellent restaurants and cafes where you can taste traditional Szeged flavors.
The city is one of the most significant fish soup-making centers in the Carpathian Basin, and Szeged paprika is also world-famous. There are numerous excellent fish restaurants in the city. Among the typical dishes are goulash soup, stew, paprikash, stuffed peppers, and lángos.
